How to dress like a rockstar

Coming to whys and wherefores… why do you want to dress like a rocker-gal?  Is It because you love and worship rock music and see yourself on stage head-banging and singing while the crowd grooves away? Or because rock symbolizes power and thus rock star dressing would help you exude a power and strength that is edgy and alluring at the same time?

Whatever be your reason (except for the lame ones like “Oh! Because it’s an in-thing nowadays) you need to first decide what genre style  you want to adopt. Do you want that Goth-chic look, or do you want to look like that tanz-metal queen? Easiest way to do this is to Google out famous female rock stars (or metal maidens as they are called) and then decide who you want to follow …or better, look thoroughly, identify a pattern and then experiment till you come up with your unique rockstar look.
Often noticed patters are highly-done eyes (kohl, eyeliner, eye shadow  ...All dark), lots of chains, quirky jewellery… or band merchandise. Clothes are selected carefully to blend with the theme of the songs.
If you ask Delhi gal, she prefers the powerful look of gothic-symphonic metal stars like Sharon Del Adel and Christina Scabbia. They are powerhouse performers and same reflects in their dressing.  Sharon has studied designing and it’s rumoured that she designs her dresses herself.
Christina Scabbia wears unusual, look-at-me jewellery and clothes that screech out POWER. Take a look and decide for yourself.

A Bohemian Rhapsody

Ever had the visions of yourself floating around wearing a floral dress and a  flower-tiara a la a gypsy? If yes , then you are a boho-chic , and thus  join the club .

Bohemian dressing and style is defined and redefined by fash-frat galore . We (Delhi Gal and Pune Gal) think that if you love dresses that flow , are inspired by nature and exotic themes, would rather be a hippie than a tight-breath-withdrawing-corset-wearing fashionista ...you are a boho-babe alright.

It seems Boho clothing has come back in style, and how! You see gals on streets wearing long floor touching dresses with exotic patterns, chunky necklaces, kohl-rimmed eyes....and you are mesmerized .
The best part about being boho is that it comes from within...if you are a boho at heart ..the dressing style would become you easily.
If you are tall, you can wear floor length gypsy skirts with a spaghetti and long chunky necklaces from north east. Forget about those louis Voittons and say hello to jholas with mirror work or chikan-work .

If you are petite, you can experiment with loose fitting girly cotton gypsy  tops and team them up with Arabian pants .
Boho dressing conveys a laid-back attitude that is amazingly alluring . Lots of international celebrities endorse boho style . Closer home, Kareena (Yuva) and Priety Zinta(lakshya) have been trendsetters in boho dressing .
However, We vote Anushka Shankar as the original Indian boho gal . She symbolises what boho actually means - Independent, free-spirited and beautiful.

When to throw that mascara away

We love our makeup kits (even though we don't really require them...after all, we are oh-so-amazing). They help us when we want our mesmerising eyes to look more mesmerizing ...our skin to look more bewitching ..as well as to hide those not-so pretty dark circles that might crop up when we party too much.

But not many of us know about the expiry date of these makeup products ..I would say primarily because its not a mandate to print expiry date on these unlike food products. So how do we determine when to throw that mascara stick away ?

First of all, why do it in the first place? I mean, why throw away that super-expensive MAC Lipstick? Lots of women I know use the same kit year after year that they get as a "bridal kit ". Not only is this dangerous, but come on , use logic... you are applying these products on delicate organs like eyes...shouldn't you be more careful?

As per my discussion with a famous make-up artist, the life of our usual make-up items is :

Foundation:8 months
Eye shadow: 1 year
Compact or Bronzer : 1 year
Eyeliner: 1 year
Lip gloss and lip stick: 1 year
Mascara: 3 months
Sunscreen: 6 months

How to ensure your beautifying product lasts longer?
Ensure you keep your beautification tool-kit at a cool and dry place. Some divas suggest cleaning the brushes of mascara and eyeliner once a month. But the best idea is to buy small quantities of these products ...and tell yourself that if you are throwing them away once their lifespan is over, you are doing your body a favour by keeping it away from bacteria-laden stuff. It may have been expensive, but you deserve better.

Spice up your Saree

I don't think I know any woman who hates wearing a saree....(except of course the lazy ones who don't want to make the effort )..it's this six yards of sheer splendour that if draped properly, can make no-one ..I repeat NO-ONE look bad ...in fact, it can metamorphose a demure damsel to a fascinating fashionista (or vice versa)

With wedding season on, its a good idea to splurge on a pretty saree that can make you look like a million bucks...but more important is the way you drape it , and of course the correct fabric.

If you are tall and slim you can get away with anything, just ensure you select the color that suites your skin tone.

If you are the curvy type (NO DIVA IS FAT), select Georgette, Chiffon or Chignon (and enjoy the can't-take-my-eyes-off-you  look in everyone's eyes. After all,you deserve it )

Size zero women should buy Organza, Cotton, Tissue and Tussar Sarees.(Pune girl looks amazing in Tissue sarees...Delhi girl is pestering her to put her own pic here wearing one)

If you are petite, its not a good idea to wear large borders as they would emphasise the  short height.

Dusky  women look amazing in colors like green and maroon.

I love these two draping styles i found in a mag recently while searching frantically for new styles. The second style looks amazing with silk sarees. The first is a little tricky, but if you get it right, you will be the cynosure of all eyes wherever you go.

Jazz up your Office Attire I

WE WORK...OK??? and if that were not enough (sigh!) ... there are these workplace dress code dictats we need to follow ....borrrrring , eh?

Not necessarily.
A fashionista would always first understand what is it that her office attire is supposed to be (Formal, business casual or plain casual ) then cleverly select her palatte in a way as to  reflect her divascence(now that's my word ok ? )in addition to  not break those how-to-dress-up  rules that the corporate HR is always ready to remind you .

We are now going to run a series of posts on all these styles so that you look your awsomest best .But as of now, we will just leave with a pic that will remind you that no matter what that office fash-frat says, a little bit of color and a teeny-weeny bit of rainbow accesory is NOT  a no-no.
In fact , it lends fresh lease to an otherwise everyday ensemble.

The Pretty Little Liars are back ...and so are the fashionistas

Happy New year everyone!!!

Say hi to new beginnings, new styles and new wiles.
Become a trendsetter if you aren't one already.
And show the world what a diva you are...like I am sure you always do.

Anyways, today pretty little liars is gonna be back in town, and on TV. I love it because in addition to being a stylish show it has a storyline for a change..one of those dark secret ones we so adore ..and Aria ...Oh ! how I love her dresses...her casual yet chic dress code .

Check out this feather earring she wears in "To kill a mocking girl".Won't you just die-die-die for it ...I donno about you ...but I surely will .
